Obituary of Lyle George Clarke

CLARKE, Lyle George Passed peacefully at his home in Orangeville, Ontario on November 24th 2015, at the age of 88. Lyle was born on November 29, 1926 in Toronto to Helen and George Clarke. Lyle grew up in Toronto attending Central Collegiate. A day after Lyle’s 18th birthday he signed up for the military - after promising his parents that he wouldn’t. This set the tone for the rest of his life, always doing it his way. Too young to see action, Lyle became a Corporal for the Pictou Highlanders, New Brunswick and always claimed ‘they ended the war when they heard I was coming’. Lyle was happily married to his childhood sweetheart Ruby (Babs) Salmon. He is predeceased by his brothers Harvey and Frank. He enjoyed an illustrious career of 38 years becoming circulation sales manager at the Toronto Star. The Star was his work family and he was still in touch with many good friends he worked alongside, always looking very forward to their regular luncheons thoughtfully planned by Morris Greener. Along with Babs after retirement from The Toronto Star they moved from Etobicoke to Caledon East to start the Town Fryer, a fish and chip shop, popular with the locals not only for the food but for the couple behind the counter. Quick witted and always had a joke in waiting, he is lovingly remembered by his children John, George (Karen, who he considered a daughter), Dianne, Brad, Glynis (Jon), grandchildren Kelly, Kristy, Adam and Jonathan, great grandchildren Alex, Aiden, Emily, Andy, Liam and Kalum. He was predeceased by Neveah. Lyle enjoyed the company of his pets throughout the years, leaving behind his dog Lacy. Lyle’s wishes were that there will be no service on his passing. Remember the good times with kindness and humour.
