There are some people that you just love immediately when you first meet them. This was the case many years ago when Glen, Edith, John and Paul first moved into Shelburne. Our families became friends without hesitation and Edith thereafter became my prayer partner. Anytime either one of us had an issue of sorts or knew of someone in need of prayer we would call one another and pray over the phone together. One day Edith said something that really touched my heart. She said she thought of me as her sister. This was one of the kindest compliments anyone ever gave me having never had a sister. Both of us were the sister that each of us never had. I'll never forget the time we were at prayer meeting and couldn't stop laughing. What a blessed time that was.....like a refreshing medicine. All the years knowing Edith she never once said a bad word about anyone and was one of the kindest persons, if not the kindest person I ever met. Many times I've said that if I ever needed a nurse, Edith is the one I would want. Dear Edith, I miss you as all of us do right now but one day we will all be reunited in heaven to enjoy our Lord Jesus and each other with no more tears or troubles of any kind forever. I love you Edith.

While driving across the United States to start a new job, I spoke with her son John and shared my testimony of God's provision. He quickly shared an invitation from Mrs. Downer to stop by their home in Canada to celebrate and to simply say 'thank you' for remaining in touch with John through the years. It was an impromptu visit that deeply and positively affected the remainder of my journey to the States. I had the honor of meeting Mrs. Downer, her husband Glen in person for the first time. They opened their home to me, shared a meal, and listened to my testimony. After all was shared, Mrs. Downer prayed with me to have a safe journey and a great start to my new job. To this day, her prayer for me to receive "favor with God and with man" has not only stopped at my first job, but has continued on with each job I've accepted since. To the Downer and Atkinson family, please accept my sincerest of thanks for sharing her with the world. She truly is a beautiful soul, and I know you will forever cherish and embrace her warmly in your thoughts. I, too, will remain grateful to God for the influence she had on my life.
