Obituary of Ruth White

White Ruth M.K. 10/10/1927-1/1/2019 With heavy hearts, we announce Ruth’s peaceful passing. Predeceased in 2017 by her loving husband George E. White, Ruth was a devoted Mum to Jean (Steve Hayward) and Keith (Sandi), adoring and cherished Nanny to Allison (Jason Wilson) and Dennis Gillett (Nicole) and Great-Nan to Noah and Quinn Wilson and Sawyer and Charleigh Gillett. Mum was born in London, England. Her twin brother David (d. 1997) was her only sibling. Her teenage years during WW ll included bombs dropping in the neighbourhood, seeking shelter in the Tube and rationing. In the British way, her family made the best of the situation. Ruth was full of stories of her early years. Life wasn’t easy. With George, Jean and Keith, she emigrated to Canada in 1958. Mum and Dad had never dreamed that life in Canada would be so good to them. They worked hard and were frugal. Family and friends were a priority. They took us on camping vacations to various destinations in North America. We will remember Mum for her witty sense of humour. She called her morning cups of tea her “cup of drug”. She was thoughtful, generous and feisty. She learned to drive when he was 47 so she could visit her grandchildren. She had opinions of her own and shared them. She was a consummate knitter, seamstress, cook, and baker (amazing shortbread). Mum and Dad were ballroom dancers in England and square and round dancers in Canada. Mum enjoyed her country home and travelling the world including countless vacations in Cuba. She collected and enjoyed anything concerning the Royal Family. She collected Royal Doulton, pinwheel crystal and thousands of stamps. When her nest became empty, Mum volunteered for 30 years at two long term residences in Barrie. Heartfelt thanks to the kind and skilled staff at Avalon Care Centre who cared for her in her final two years. At times, Mum gave them a run for their money! Mum had Alzheimer’s for several years. We thank Alzheimer Society Dufferin for their education, support and advice on Mum’s journey. We are blessed that Mum knew her children and grandchildren to the end. She had forgotten how old she was, but she never forgot that she was born on 10/10/27! In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to Alzheimer Society Dufferin County. Our family thanks Randy and Emma at In Memoriam Funeral Services for taking care of the details so professionally. A Celebration of Life will be held at In Memoriam (633419 Hwy 10, Mono Plaza, Mono) on May 4, 2019 from 2 p.m. -5 p.m. Bring your stories of Mum and your dancing shoes. In Memoriam Funeral Services Inc. has been given the honour to serve the White Family.
