I’m grateful to have spent so much time with our Uncle Dan growing up, as he lived just next door and spent much of his free time with us as a family. We spent time together nearly every day and it was a comfort to know he was never far away.
As a kid, Dan would take us for rips on his snowmobile. He would haul us up and down the hill on the farm in the winter so we could ride our GT scooters. He’d tolerate our help loading hay and straw in the summer. He addressed all my birthday cards as “Woody” - quotes included.
He was kind and gentle. He loved animals and they loved him right back. My dog Danni, his namesake, chose to spend her days with him at his house, resting on the back deck. I remember well him playing with Marty, his funny old Siamese, and the time he and my dad rescued a tiny little bunny for us, or when he quietly stated “likes gravy” referring to Mister Tinky. It’s fitting that we now care for his and Grandma’s Miss Kitty, whom he recently described to us as “just perfect”.
It’s true we woke up nearly everyday in good weather to the sound of his bike starting, usually his first and then my Dad’s. When he wasn’t riding it, you could find him washing and polishing, making sure it looked the chrome shined brighter than the stars in the sky, and he has the trophies to prove it.
Incredible both were his road trips each summer, often flying solo on long trips though the US and to Sturgis where he could visit with all the friends he met over the years, and the incredible friendships he held strong over the years, many of whom were like brothers.
My grandma would often boast how proud she was to have raised to boys as close as my Dad and Dan were. They were “as thick as theives,” she’d say. No doubt they saw their fair share of mischief. They really have always been inseparable those two - and what a wonderful example they set for Nancy and I.
We love you Uncle Dan, and we’re grateful you were ours. Give our love to Papa.
Love,
Woody

My condolences to Charlie, Kim and the rest of the Beckner family. I'm sorry to hear of Dans passing. I always thought he was a pretty cool guy, and maybe always had a better looking bike than Charlie. Again my sincere condolences to the the Beckner family. Michael and Krista Parke.
