Gordon Edward Morris

August 29, 1964 - October 28, 2024

It is with great sadness and heavy hearts that we announce the sudden passing of Gordon Edward Morris on Monday, October 28th  2024.

Gord was born in Toronto on August 28th, 1964 to Jack and Helen Morris. In 1970, Jack and Helen moved the entire family to Caledon, where the Morris family spent their formative years. During those years, Gord made many friends; what’s truly amazing is that this group have remained friends for life.

Gord was the youngest of four brothers: Frank (Lorie 1959-2021), David (Gail) and Bruce (Sandy). He was a dedicated father figure to Tristan. A loving uncle to Jeremy, Bradley, Brett, Stacey, Jessica, Samantha, Andrew and Jessica. And a devoted grandfather to Truce, Haven and Chance.

From 1999 to 2007, Jack & Helen took the family to Grandview Lodge, a resort located in Central Ontario. The bonds of family really flourished during those weeks away. Gord always spent time with all his nieces & nephews in a way that made them feel special and memorable. In 1997, Gord met Lynn Mansfield and her two daughters Lisa and Kris. During their relationship Gord quickly became a dedicated father figure to Lynn’s girls. In 2000, Tristan was born to Kris. Gord embraced Tristan, becoming a key father figure in his life.  Tristan lived with him right up to the end. Gord loved spending time & watching Truce, Haven & Chance play their sports & celebrate special days.

After graduating from Mayfield Secondary School, Gord enrolled at Sheridan College for Law Enforcement. Part of his program included a co-op placement as a security guard at the Skyline Hotel in Toronto. This is where Gord made lifelong friendships with his co-workers. After graduating, Gord got a job policing the University of Toronto campus. This job gave Gord the skills that he would use the rest of his life.

In 1991, Gord began his career with Canada Border Services Agency (CBSA). For the next 33 years, Gord worked his way up thru the ranks, forming bonds with the whole agency and gaining the respect of several different police agencies. He made a career of looking people “In the Eye”. Along the way, Gord has helped countless people find their career paths.   He was recently appointed to the position of Acting Assistant Director, Immigration Enforcement Operations Division, which he enjoyed very much and was very proud to have achieved.

In life, Gord enjoyed playing golf, playing poker, barbecuing and socializing with friends and family. He was an integral part of a group of friends that enjoyed countless activities together, including golfing each Thursday in the Paddy Kerruish Golf League at the Mayfield Golf Club. He helped organized numerous golf trips to Myrtle Beach, an annual weekend trip to Billy’s cottage and played in the Annual International Border Patrol Golf tournament in Batavia New York, just to name a few.

In June, Gord was diagnosed with kidney cancer. Following successful surgery to remove his kidney, Gord was able to return to his normal activities by the end of August and was proud to celebrate his 60th birthday surrounded by family and friends. On October4, Gord was diagnosed with another tumour. He fought a courageous battle right up until his passing. Every day he was surrounded by loved ones. No one more special than his girlfriend, who stood by his side right up to his last breath. In true Gord fashion, he always woke up whenever anyone came in to see him and would have a conversation with his visitors. The doctors and nurses at the Brampton Civic Hospital were always amazed at his strength and courage right up to his last day. We thank them for their care and kindness.

In Lieu of flowers, donations in Gord’s honour may be made to the William Osler Hospital Foundation or the Wellspring Cancer Support.

A private family interment will be held at a future date at the Caledon East Cemetery.

A celebration of life will be held at the Bramalea Celtic Supporters Club (30 Peel Center Drive -west entrance of building, Brampton, ON) on Sunday, November 24th at 1:00 pm. The Honour Guard ceremony and speeches will take place at 2:00 pm.
