I met Daryl at the Shangri-la in Toronto where I stay often on business trips. I was always happy to see him and he was so genuinely friendly and warm towards me. As time went on we shared some stories about life and I really enjoyed hearing about what he was up to.
I will definitely miss seeing his smile, and remember him fondly. My sincere condolences to his friends and family.

It is the bar at the Shangrila where i became acquainted with Daryl. He only knew me by my first name and me by his.
Sorry to learn of his early passing.
He was a real credit to the Shangrila.

Daryl, I can't believe I just found out you left us. I was sharing some of our childhood memories yesterday. I am in complete shock. There is not a single childhood memory that doesn't include you. You were my best friend and for many years we did everything together, from building igloos to chasing butterflies to playing house and endlessly listening to your favourite song "Abracadabra" to your father calling us Wilma and Fred. So many treasured memories and despite our lives taking different paths and us losing contact you will forever hold a special place in my heart. Sending my love and condolences to your husband and family. xo Natasha

Wow Natasha, such great memories to share. I know how close Daryl was to you, he would often update me on how you were & that you were living in Europe. We miss Daryl so much and to hear your words and words from others adds some comfort to our family.
Love and much warmth, Noella xo

I feel so fortunate to have known Daryl. I met him through Chris, high school pals with my husband Richard. The four of us all met around the same time, so we got to spend the early honeymoon days of dating going for double dates and dancing nights. Daryl had a very special way of making his friends feel welcome and cared for - the absolute host with the most (you've never seen a cheese board like he could create!), and he was always the first to pay a sincere compliment that made you feel loved. He was the only man allowed at my bachelorette party and we danced until dawn. Daryl, I hope your light will keep shining through the people you loved in your absence. Truly you were one of a kind.

I grew up with Daryl, he was the equivalent of a big brother to me. I was best friends with his little sister Kelly for our entire childhood, and as a result have countless fond memories. I distinctly remember how tidy his bedroom was growing up and how he was always impeccably dressed. The stealing of clothes was a constant issue in the English household. At any given time an argument would erupt over a “borrowed” stripped Gap t-shirt. With that said, Daryl enjoyed his sister’s company and came with us to many high school parties - oh the Orangeville fun!! He even took us to our first real concert, The Violent Femmes in grade 9! In later years, he was known to us as Uncle Daryl, always showing up with a tray of fabulous treats or presents and still, might I add, impeccably dressed. Thank you, Uncle Daryl for the laughs and the friendship.
