As I sit here today thinking of Berva, everyone meets with her family in Grand Valley. I was huge fan of Berva’s, long before I met her. I never missed the local Fall Fairs and when I saw Berva’s work, I recalled the Buttery name from childhood. A friend of mine, had mentioned this name being someone they went to school with and it just stuck. But I loved the quilts so I looked for her name every year. Then I joined the Stitch and Share group with our local quilters guild and got to know the real person. She always spoke so proudly of her family and made sure to keep me updated as she seemed to think I knew her daughter. Kindred spirits, perhaps. But when you walked in the door at a Stitch and Share, and she’d call you to sit nearby so she could fill you in, it felt like a conspiracy, especially as she had that mischievous twinkle in her eye, but you knew you had a friend. I have missed Berva since lockdowns began. I will miss her forever. How lucky are we all to have memories of such a fine lady! ❤️❤️❤️

Berva could knit these amazing mitts with both sides done at the same time. She tried to teach us but we did not get it at our group in Montgomery Village. So we will miss her. Meg, Anne, Bonnie, Wilma, Clair, Kay, and a few other names I am sorry to forget.

Forever grateful for getting to know this Beautiful Soul!
Sharing so many laughs, butter tart’s, life lessons and picking out so many bolts of material with discussions on projects! Selection on what was “needed”and what would be the “stash” till it was given a use! I am thankful for Cotton Threads to have met Berva!! I have kept you in my thoughts and give thanks for memories that will last my lifetime. Thank you for everything your shared :) Hugs , love and blessings to all who celebrate Berva.

Mary, I have such fond memories of your mom and the sweet twinkle she always seemed to have in her eyes. She was always full of light and laughter with news to tell! May you take comfort in knowing your mom was loved not only by family but by all who knew her as a friend. Thinking of you and your family at this difficult time. Sending our Love, Lesa, Ryan, Matthew and Lauren Cody xo

Berva was such a wonderful lady. We were neighbours for many years and I will miss her cheery conversations. She knit hundreds of pairs of the double knit mittens for the students at Grand Valley PS for over 12 years. I just spoke to her in June about mittens she was working on for September. What an amazing lady who will be truly missed. Rest peacefully my friend our lives have been better for having known you.

I remember Berva as a wonderful lady who had a zest for life. Conversations at Stitch 'N Share were often about baking, knitting, her family and of course quilting. I will think of her fondly.

Berva was a wonderfully funny lady who had this passion for quilting and telling people how many pieces were in a quilt i.e. 745.
Sincere condolences to the family. She will be missed.

My late husband, Sandy had an ongoing thing with Berva over her excellent buttertarts. He seamed to need to be "quality control"
She was an excellent baker and quilter and had a wicked sense of humour.

Quinn, I am so sorry to learn of your Grandma's passing. I won't forget her stopping at our house to welcome us to Grand Valley and introduce herself. In my brief interaction with her, I could tell she was a sweet, special and spunky lady. Sending you a big, loving hug and hoping your memories with her are bringing you and your family comfort during this sad time. Xoxo 523.5

Berva was such a vivacious, friendly person who we all loved and looked forward to seeing. She really was a great conversationalist and a warm person which certainly got passed down to Mary who carries the same traits. Berva definitely will be missed!
