David was that one cousin whom you could always trust first and count on for leadership, guidance and just a FUN guy to be around and enjoy new experiences with. He always had an eye out for the younger ones (ok, his parents asked him to) watch over and show them new things to learn.
I recall several outings whether at cottages and especially camping with family where many fun memories are held.
From these we add several Family Reunions over many years and different venues, each delivering the promise of time spent together at different stages of our lives.
I have extremely fond memories of the camping excursion to the east coast, Dave with his parents, me traveling with our grandparents. 3 weeks of exploring Quebec, New Brunswick, Nova Scotia and Cape Breton, PEI.
What a trip and memories that are still so vivid to this day. Swimming in so many waters, trying to speak French unsuccessfully, camp fires, board games, Magnetic Hill and who could ever forget Cape Cod!
Later in our older teens Dave in early 20's he took me on a tear through his town, the big smoke, TO. In his Celica we raced across the 401 down the Don Valley across the Gardener up the 427 to 401 to young street back to his place. Zig zagging through traffic racing along side his best friend I still feel the thrills and goosebumps.
Dave also participated in Rally racing I loved to hear his stories on some of these.
Dave stood up as my wedding party in '75. Oh and I had purchased a brand new '75 Red Toyota Celica GT. Wonder how that came about.
Dave got me hooked on getting Dempster bread run on a weekend visit with he and Chris. Next thing I knew I purchased his brother's in law route and moved into their house for a few months till I sold mine.
Melanie was so small then, Dave couldn't wait to get home daily to her.
Once when my bread truck motor blew on hyw 90 outside of Angus, Dave either got sucked in or volunteered to help me along with my brother Phil, take the motor out and replace it over the weekend. The only thing was it was on the gravel shoulder with the busy traffic whipping by. Dave and Phil never let up the entire time. Laughter and perhaps some other chosen phrases could be heard during this time.
Well we finished getting the motor in around supper time on Sunday ready to fire her up. Timing light? Who brought a timing light?
So I looked up the hyway, said Barrie isn't that far, let's try to make the garage. Well it started up, moved a few yards (yes yards) and bang, blew a piston…..
We shared many of those early morning's on the dock arranging our loads and cabisting with each other as well as helping each other pust the heavier dollies onto our trucks.
Dave was always there when I needed help through the summer to run additional loads up to meet me.
This is only a cousins partial view of some thoughts and time spent.
Husband, father, son, best friend, grandson and nephew.
Rest in peace Dave, until we meet again.

Dave was an awesome neighbour. I always looked for him sitting in his red chair by his shed. If I was outside and needed a break, it was nice to go and have a chat with him.
If we needed any tool or advice on how to fix something, he had a tool for it and advice. He loved that he could be of help to everyone.
His stories were always enlightening around the camp fire and a rum. We had a few neighbourly fires.
We will miss him greatly. Our hearts go out to Christine and the family. Thank goodness Jimi is around providing unconditional love.

We are so sorry for your and our loss. As another late friend of ours David Rose once said many years ago "you will never find a better or more loyal friend" and he was right. I personally have not only now lost my best friend but also the brother I never had. Rest in peace my "brother". My wife Christine and I will carry your memory with us for as long as we live.

Dear Dave.
You will be missed by so many. Your kindness, your sense of humour, and your naturally caring nature. We didn't grow up together but thanks to our family reunions and christmases, I got to know you and am the better for it.
My love and thoughts to all who will hold you in their hearts forever.

Uncle Dave was a constant for me in our family gatherings. He always wanted to be there and his love radiated out from him. We had some special moments together when we would carpool to Nana’s from Barrie when I was in college. I will always remember his calming and reassuring presence at my Grandpa’s funeral, it meant so much to have him there. I loved the triple duo that was my Pop, Uncle Rob and Uncle Dave. Family gatherings won’t be the same without you, Uncle Dave. Thank you for being such a kind and loving man! ❤️
