In Memory of

Aase (Osa) Christensen

January 11, 1933 - July 11, 2022

Our dear mother Aase (Osa) Christensen, beloved wife of Arne (deceased 1996) passed away on Monday, July 11, 2022 at the age of 89 at Matthews House Hospice in Alliston, Ontario.

Osa grew up in Copenhagen Denmark. At 19 years old, she met Arne at his going away party, just 6 weeks prior to his immigrating to Canada. After a whirlwind romance they were married, Arne sailed to Canada and Osa joined him 5 months later. Quite the adventure for a 19 year old newly wed.. a new country, culture, language plus starting a family!!!

Osa and Arne raised 3 children:  Isabel (Landau) of Madison, Wisconsin; Peter (and his wife Sylvia) of Bracebridge, Ontario, and Bonnie (and her husband Scott) of Burnaby, B.C. and joyously welcomed grandkids: Derek, Melissa, Samantha, Michael and Christopher and great grandchildren Lacey, Lily, Lotus Rayne, Avery and Huxley to the family.

Osa was a creative, resourceful, and thrifty Mom. She loved to plan surprise parties and make our holidays extra special.  She was always at the ready with her camera - eager to record fun moments of gatherings with family and friends. Osa had a delightful sense of humour, and a playful, mischievous, outgoing personality. She enjoyed classical music and opera. She was a self-taught artist, and her water colour paintings express a deep appreciation for nature. Many of her friends received her artwork as a gift - be it a card or a framed painting.

Osa had such a generous heart. Genuinely interested in others, she had a remarkable talent of connecting and relating with people. There’s a Danish word “Hygge” which essentially means "taking a pause from the busy-ness of life to relax and enjoy the people you care about and creating a cozy, comfortable environment that invites feelings of contentment”. She made it a priority to create that welcoming feeling in her home.

Working since her teens, Osa's favourite job was as a guide and receptionist at the McMichael Art Gallery in Kleinburg. While there she cultivated many deep friendships (like their own “Group of Seven”) that are sustained to this day. An Alliston resident in her retirement years (in Green Briar, the Palisades and Kingsmere Retirement Home) she enjoyed participating in Line-Dancing, Silver Tones choral Group and Tai-Chi and the friends she made along the way.

Osa will be dearly missed by her family and all her many friends. Her love and spirit will be forever in our hearts.

Our family would like to extend heartfelt gratitude to all the friends and care workers who have been so supportive to Osa in her times of need.

We would welcome any sharing of special memories, photos and condolences which can be made online at www.imfunerals.com
