Obituary of Douglas Norman MacLEOD
Douglas Norman MacLeod, age 89 of Orangeville Ontario, passed away peacefully on Saturday, October 30, 2021 in Headwaters Hospital in Orangeville.
Doug was always quick with a joke and loved to make other people laugh. He had an easy going, supportive and soft hearted nature … with just a dash of mischief.
Doug lived a long and happy life, and will be fondly remembered as a loving husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather; and as a talented architectural draftsman he designed many buildings in and around the Bolton area.
Doug was an active member of his community; he was a beloved coach, volunteer ambulance driver, started up the YMCA in Bolton and was involved in many community organizations
Doug will be missed by his beloved wife Leah Mary Lynne MacLeod; his daughter Katherine Barbazza (Roland), his son Brian Douglas MacLeod (Karen) and by their mother Helen Patricia Magee; his grandchildren Jacqueline (Scott), Jennifer (Shaun), Nicole (Jamie); great grandchildren Maya, Jax, Bradley, Kenzi, and Amelia; his step children David, Janice, Mateo (Janine), Sarah (Lance), and Magdalene. He will be held dear in the hearts of his family, relatives, and many friends. If so desired, donations in memory of Doug may be made to the YMCA of Greater Toronto Area.
"Death is nothing at all.
It does not count.
I have only slipped away into the next room.
Nothing has happened.
Everything remains exactly as it was.
I am I, and you are you,
and the old life that we lived so fondly together is untouched, unchanged.
Whatever we were to each other, that we are still.
Call me by the old familiar name.
Speak of me in the easy way which you always used.
Put no difference into your tone.
Wear no forced air of solemnity or sorrow.
Laugh as we always laughed at the little jokes that we enjoyed together.
Play, smile, think of me, pray for me.
Let my name be ever the household word that it always was.
Let it be spoken without an effort, without the ghost of a shadow upon it.
Life means all that it ever meant.
It is the same as it ever was.
There is absolute and unbroken continuity.
What is this death but a negligible accident?
Why should I be out of mind because I am out of sight?
I am but waiting for you, for an interval,
somewhere very near,
just round the corner.
All is well." -By Henry Scott-Holland
