Obituary of Gailen Elsie Elizabeth SYLVESTER
Heaven is more beautiful now
Gailen passed away peacefully in her home, with her daughters by her side, on August 22, 2021.
Gailen is predeceased by her husband Ronald Sylvester and her parents Edgar and Clara Schroeder. She will reunite in heaven with her sons, Timothy and Matthew Stapley.
Gailen will be forever held in the hearts of her daughters, Margaret Stapley (son-in-law Mark Halliday) and Katherine Stapley.
She was a very proud grandmother and her three granddaughters brought her great joy, Victoria, Elizabeth (Halliday) and Amelia (Stapley). They will all deeply miss their dear Oma.
She will be sadly missed by her sister Brenda (Albert) Pighin and family. Gailen and her sister went on many incredible cruises, Alaska, Panama and Russia to name a few. Seeing the world together.
She will be remembered fondly by her extended family and her many wonderful friends here in Canada and abroad. Dinners and dominoes with Nori, Shaun and Ross were a highlight to her week.
Gailen was an incredibly strong and independent woman. She had a love for traveling, particularly to Portugal for many winters where she made cherished, long-lasting friendships. She loved flowers and reading and had an unquenching thirst for knowledge, which she loved to share with others. A day is not lost when you learn something new was her motto.
Katherine and Margaret would like to extend their sincere appreciation to the incredible care givers from ‘Right at Home’, with special love and thanks to Barb, Carla and Hetal. In addition, their gratitude goes to the wonderful care given to their mom by her palliative care nurses Jeanette and Leeanne from ‘Bayshore’. We are forever grateful for your kindness and compassion.
A Celebration of Life for Gailen will be held at the home of her daughter Margaret, in Caledon. Date to be announced. Graveside interment will take place at Beechwood Cemetery in Ottawa.
If so desired, donations in memory of Gailen may be made to the MS Society of Canada.
