I was the first EHS professional at GE Corporate Canada in 1980, and had to work closely with Merritt on the hiring of plant EHS personnel, the creation of spaces for the clinic etc, and the big budget items on site remediation and the health study. Merritt quickly understood the technical issues and what needed to be done. He was deliberate on our progress reports but never flinched in his support. Bruce Martin and Ian Bourne were at many of the sessions, and they all made it easy for a new young recruit speaking a new technical and legal language

My deepest condolences to you all. As my sister (Linda Armstrong) noted, our parents were great friends and know they enjoyed and respected one another. Mr. Gordon was a pillar of both the business community and civic side of Peterborough. It was evident he enjoyed what he did, not just doing something because it was expected. I enjoyed reading the Examiner article - and had a chuckle about his trademark cigar trail. You knew he was around before you even saw him! Janet Carr
