Obituary of Jean Mitchell Christie
Jean Mitchell CHRISTIE of Brampton passed away at her home on Wednesday, January 6th, 2016 just 3 days short of her 75th birthday.
Born in Glasgow on a night when the Luftwaffe bombed the River Clyde to James Mills (away at service) and Catherine Mitchell (a munitions worker), Jean Mitchell Mills went on to live a storied life.
Jean spent her early years as a home child in Scotland away from her mother in England and her father who was then missing in action. After the war, and the return of her father, the 3 began life as a family. Jean was very close with both her parents and was undoubtedly happy to reunite with them on Wednesday.
Jean and her recently predeceased husband of 53 years Alexander Gordon CHRISTIE, immigrated to Canada in 1967. Theirs was a love like no other and she missed him terribly in the last 10 months. They are together again.
It is through Jean's sheer determination and will that she raised her son Mark Mills Christie to be the person he is today. She was never a fan of the words "cannot, will not or never" and that is what she lived by until the very end. It is with great hope that these traits rubbed off on her grandchildren Alexa and Aaron.
Jean will be remembered by her son Mark (Angela), grandchildren Alexa and Aaron, sisters in law Kate (Bill) Thomson, and Diane Ritchie (Jim). Nieces and Nephews Elaine, Andrew, Jennifer, Alan, And grandniece Niamh. She leaves behind a legacy of friendship with many both here and abroad.
The family would like to invite all whom her life touched to "Jean's Place" (a celebration of life in her honour) on Sunday, January 17th from 2pm-5pm in the party room at 12 Laurelcrest St, Brampton
In lieu of flowers, and in honour of Jean's love of reading please make a donation in her name to The Children's Book Bank, Toronto or to the Canadian Pulmonary Fibrosis Foundation.
