Obituary of George Groen

GROEN, Gerrit “George” Passed away peacefully at home on Thursday May 26th, 2016 in Grand Valley, Ontario in his 64th year, George lost his lengthy battle with cancer and was surrounded by his loving wife Marg and his family. His legacy will be continued through his 8 children: Devon (Sarah), Peter (Michelle), Ryan (Osie), Mike (Lisa), Daryl, Vanessa (Luke), Brandy (Shawn), and Danielle (Rob). He was a cherished Opa of 19 grandchildren: James, Nicole, Abby, Elsie, Cody, Ethan, Mia, Emma, Sydney, Braedon, Charley, Dylan, Ben, Michael, Karlie, Mercedes, Dallas, Cole and Hailey. He was born July 29th, 1952 in Hoofdorp, the Netherlands. His family moved to Canada in 1956 and he grew up in Orangeville, settling in Grand Valley. George is survived by his brothers and sisters: Ena (Luke), John (Alice), Ray, Joan (Ben), Jon (Jenny), Arnold (Jenny), Arthur (Betty), Ed (Bertha) and Randy (Alice). He was predeceased by his parents Jan and Johanna, his sister Mary, brother Bert and sister in-law Lynda. At George’s request, cremation has taken place. The family would like to thank the team at Saint Elizabeth and CCAC. With special thanks to Lesley, Joanna, Crystal, Cheryl and a dear family friend Shannon. A memorial celebration of George’s life will take place at the Monora Park Pavilion, 500 Monora Park Drive, Mono, Ont, L9W 0E1 on Tuesday, May 31st, 2016 from 6:00pm-9:00pm. Words of remembrance will take place at 8:00pm. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Saint Elizabeth Nursing on behalf of George.
