“The human world, it’s a mess”, but even at its most chaotic, Kaila maintained her
playfulness, thoughtfulness, and determination.
I’ll never forget how she ‘toughed it out’ during our play 7 years ago. Kaila spent the morning of the dress rehearsal in hospital. After being discharged she headed straight to the theatre, too exhausted to put on her costume. Nevertheless, she stayed the entire evening (and every night of the two week run). What a trooper!
Kaila’s genuine concern for the welfare of others (regardless of what she faced in her own life) was remarkable. When Kaila saw or sensed someone was in need she would provide not only emotional support but tangible assistance – and she never used these kind acts to promote herself.
She made the deliberate choice to be open about things others might chose to keep private because "you never know who might be going through something similar, and seeing someone else go through it might help them [to feel less isolated and know it's survivable]." To her the opportunity to be helpful was more important than the perceptions of others.
She was adorkable (dorky in a way that made people adore her even more).
I’ll miss our chats about spirituality, the arts, and of course singalongs with the girls (where Kaila was clearly the best when it came to princess voices and Simba, ha).
Although Kaila’s life feels too brief, she managed to touch many hearts.
“If I may say, far better than any dream girl is one of flesh and blood. One warm, and caring, and right before your eyes” , clearly written for Kaila.
Lori, Leah, Rose, and Mike, you're in my thoughts.
Regards,
Anaïs Rozencwajg
