Obituary of George Ernest White
White, George Ernest P. Eng.
April 13th, 1927 – September 10th, 2017
Peacefully at Avalon Care Centre, on Grandparents’ Day. He is survived by his cherished wife Ruth Muriel Kathleen (Ling) White and his two children Jean (Steve) Hayward and Keith (Sandi) White. He was an attentive Grandpa to Allison (Jason) Wilson and Dennis (Nicole Sheridan) Gillett. He was Grampa George to great grandchildren Noah and Quinn Wilson and Sawyer and Charlotte (Charleigh) Gillett. George was born in London, England. He lived his teenage years in World War 2 London. He married Ruth, his teenage sweetheart, almost 70 years ago. With his wife and children, he moved to Canada in 1958. He lived in Etobicoke until 1972. He first worked in the aeronautics industry and finished his career teaching at Georgian College in Barrie.
George worked hard and was truly grateful for his successes in life. Over the years, he loved square dancing, camping, canoeing and puttering around on the country property in Springwater. With Ruth, he enjoyed thirty years of retirement. They went to Cuba, once or twice, every year. They also visited England, New Zealand, Hawaii, Fiji and Canadian destinations. George served, for a term, as councillor for Vespra Township. He was passionate, had high expectations and strong opinions.
To quote George,” Be cheerful. I am thankful to have been very lucky in life and had a good family. Take care of each other.”
Cremation has taken place. A private immediate family gathering will be held at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to Alzheimer’s Society-Dufferin, Headwaters Health Care Centre, Canadian Cancer Society or Heart and Stroke.
