Obituary of Allan Bowie Meikle

Meikle, Allan Bowie It is with broken hearts, that we would like to announce that Allan passed away unexpectedly on Monday August 6th, 2018 at Headwaters Health Care Centre at the age of 85. Loving husband of Pauline; loved father of David (Tara) and Kim Bayley (Mark Saldat); cherished granddad of Jason Bayley (Suzie Sobieraj) and Tyler Bayley, Krystalin, Liam, Mairi, and Julia; proud great granddad of Ben (Suzie & Jason’s son). Allan will be missed by many of his Scottish and English relatives as well as his friends around the community and abroad. Allan was a truly kind, moral and generous person. He was both fun-loving and well respected. In his 61 years married and working in Canada, Allan made many lasting friendships. Starting in 1957 in Deep River, Ontario, he worked as an nuclear engineer with Atomic Energy, moving with his family to Montreal in 1973, and then to Mississauga in 1976 to work with Hydro Fusion. Allan later became an entrepreneur, having an exciting consulting career which included helicopter travel to Oil Rigs to conduct crucial safety audits. After years of snowbird golf travel to Florida, he and Pauline settled in a Caledon golf course community in 2014, close to daughter Kim and Mark. Allan was passionate about sailing throughout his life; starting with racing and building International 14s, through to enjoying his C&C 35 on Georgian Bay. He captained numerous Regatta victories and hosted family sailing vacations in beautiful Georgian Bay. He was an all-round sportsman, excelling at tennis, golf and skiing, also organizing many family ski holidays. Allan was an even better hobbyist master carpenter, leaving an heirloom legacy of cherished woodwork including several clocks and furniture. Allan was known for entertaining the family with stories, jokes, and Scottish quotes and poetry. To Allan, a deserved tribute: An honest man here lies at rest, As e’er God with His image blest: The friend of man, the friend of truth; The friend of age, and guide of youth: Few hearts like his, with virtue warm’d, Few heads with knowledge so inform’d: If there’s another world, he lives in bliss; If there is none, he made the best of this. -Robert Burns.
