Obituary of George Melrose

George Melrose May 29, 1934 to January 14, 2019 (84 years) It is with a very heavy heart that we announce the passing of our beloved family Matriarch. George passed away peacefully at his home on Monday January 14, 2019 after a brief illness, surrounded by his loving family. Predeceased by his son Alan (May 21, 2015). George leaves behind his beloved wife of 63 years Betty and his 3 loving daughters Alison (Jeff), Debbie (Ken) and Terry (Pete).Cherished Papa of Steven , Andrew, Sean, Amanda, Richard, Melanie and Matthew. Proud Great Papa of Gavin, Hailey and Odin. Loving brother of Hetty and brother-in-law to Jeanette. George will be sadly missed by his family, his many nieces and nephews and all who had the privilege of knowing him. George loved his family and property and became known to many as “The garage guy” who shared a love of sitting at the picnic table in front of the garage with his son-in-law Pete. When not at the picnic table, he could be found driving his John Deere lawn tractor around his property with a big smile on his face. He also had a passion for gardening. He would frequently take wee breaks sitting at his cherished picnic table with his son-in-law, rye and 7 in hand having a fag. Everybody that drove by would honk and wave. He especially loved when bikers would drive in packs, stereos blaring, giving them the thumbs up. He was also a very proud member of the Masonic Lodge and had just celebrated his 50 year anniversary in 2018. A Celebration of George’s life will take place at the In Memoriam Life Celebration Centre, 633419 Highway 10, Mono, Ontario on Saturday January 26, 2019 from 1:00 p.m. – 4:00 p.m. A Masonic Service will begin at 1:30 p.m. followed by Words of Remembrance. As expressions of sympathy, donations in memory of Geroge may be made to the Canadian Cancer Society or the Alzheimer Society Dufferin County. In Memoriam Funeral Services Inc. has been given the honour to serve the Melrose Family.
