Obituary of Valerie Ann ARMSTRONG
It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Valerie Armstrong (nee Lawrence) on January 4, 2025, at Maple Grove Care Community in Brampton where she moved in 2021. Valerie was the loving mother of Robert (Anna) of Bancroft, Kim (Wes) Thompson of Orangeville and Kathy of Thornhill. She was the loving grandmother of Jason, Gordy, Hannah, Scott and James. Valerie was predeceased by her husband Elvin in 2013, parents James and Mayme (Wardle) and her siblings Audrey, Adrian and Dale.
Valerie was born and raised in Sturgis, Saskatchewan until she came to Ontario and met the love of her life, Elvin. She was well known for her love of all things sports particularly baseball, hockey, curling and figure skating. She was one of the driving forces in the creation of the Bancroft Figure Skating Club and was an endless volunteer at schools and community events.
Beyond that, the most important thing to her was family. She was a catalyst in keeping family connections both in Ontario and in Western Canada. She often made the long drive to Saskatchewan and Alberta in the summers with the kids in tow to ensure that we maintained our links to her broader family.
Her family and friends will miss her dearly but will carry her memory forward in their hearts. A Celebration of Life is being planned for the spring-further details to come.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Hospice North Hastings or Quinte Health North Hastings Hospital.
Our family extends our heartfelt thanks to all who have offered their love and support during this difficult time.
