Debera HOLMES

Obituary of Debera Christina HOLMES

Please share a memory of Debera to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.

July 24th, 1951 – September 3rd, 2024

It is with heavy hearts that we share the sudden passing of Debera (Debbie) Holmes, loving wife, mom, and Nan. On September 3rd, 2024, at the age of 73, Debbie passed away peacefully at Guelph General Hospital under the amazing care of their ICU.

Debbie was born on July 24th, 1951, and was the youngest child of Elizabeth (Lizy) and William (Bill) Cook. She was born in Dundalk and grew up close by in Horning’s Mills along with her twelve siblings.  She is survived by 2 sisters, Reta and Sharon and predeceased by Marion, Marg, Lloyd, Allan, Glen, Stan, Bernice, Shirley, Kay, and Lorraine. In 1967 she met the love of her life, Lyle Holmes, and they got married in July 1968. Their long-lasting love was and will always be an inspiration to those close to them.

She was a loving mom to her two children, Wayne (Jayne) and Michelle (David), and an amazing Nan to her two grandchildren, Taryn (Darren) and Jadyn. Family meant the world to Debbie; her love was unconditional for those who meant the most to her.

Debbie loved arranging the family reunions and seeing her family.  She cherished her siblings, nieces, nephews and extended family.

Christmas was her favourite time of year.  She loved decorating the house and watching Lyle put thousands of tiny lights on the Christmas tree.  She was able to spend time with family and celebrate her love with them.

Debbie’s favourite hobbies included gardening, playing golf, playing cards and cheering for her children and grandchildren at sporting events.  She was well known for her poofy, pink gloves clapping and cheering in the stands.

A special thank you to the Dufferin County ambulance attendants, the staff at the Headwaters Health Care Centre ER department, the ORNGE transport attendants, the staff at the Guelph General Hospital ICU unit and Randy and his staff at In Memoriam Funeral Services.  You have all shown Debbie and her family exceptional care and great compassion during this very difficult time.

In lieu of flowers, donations to the Guelph General Hospital ICU, the Orangeville Salvation Army Christmas Hamper Program, or a charity of your choice are greatly appreciated.

A celebration of Debbie’s life will be held on Saturday, September 14th, 2024, from 11:00 am – 1:00 pm, at In Memoriam Funeral Services Inc. (28 Main Street North, Grand Valley, ON L9W 5S7). Words of remembrance will take place at 12:30 pm.
