Constance (Connie) Lesley SHIMES

May 14, 1943 - April 27, 2024

After a courageous battle with cancer, Connie passed peacefully, Saturday, April 27th, at home with her daughters by her side.  Connie was in her 81st year.

Connie loved life, her family and her friends.  Her greatest love was her family; a loving, devoted wife of the late Barry Leonard Shimes (May 11, 2013) and cherished mum to Sarah Sawchyn (Mark) and Carol Shimes.  Proud Nana to Sheldon Sawchyn (Maddy), Quinton Sawchyn and Cameron Shimes (Sab).

Determined, “GiGi” held on to meet her new Great Grandson, Beckett Shimes.

Connie adored her brothers and sisters.  So many good times and fond memories were made with sister Barbara (Alfie - predeceased) and Trevor (Lynne).  Predeceased by sister Desi, brother Cliff and sister-in-law Margaret.  She will also be missed by brother-in-law Peter (Margaret) and her many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

Long time resident of Orangeville, Connie volunteered with many organizations, service clubs and programs; meeting so many people along the way, many becoming life-long friends.

Connie was a 28-year member of the Royal Canadian Legion Branch 15 and joined the Ladies Auxiliary to RCL Br 15 in 2010, where she served as President from 2013 – 2015 and Honours & Awars Officer from 2013 to present.  Connie was honoured with the Trillium Pin in 2017.
