Obituary of Michael AVIS
Michael AVIS
In proud and treasured memory of Michael Avis who passed away in the arms of his beloved wife of 50 years Jane, on March 27th, 2024, at Bethell Hospice in Caledon.
Michael was well known and recognized in Brampton for his many volunteering achievements and passion regarding the heritage of Brampton. He was instrumental in establishing Historic Bovaird House as a living museum. Micheal received many awards for his tireless volunteering, including in 2012 the Governor General Heritage Award and in 2019 Brampton Citizen of the Year Award.
Michael was a brilliant Piano Technician for over 63 years. He was well regarded by his customers for his integrity, honesty and expertise. He travelled to Russia and Japan in the 1990’s to work with piano manufactures to learn and advise them to build better pianos for export.
Michael lived life to the fullest with his loving wife Jane. He loved his home, his garden, his cat Lily, the Argos and his many cherished friends. He was always courageous, optimistic and hopeful during his illness. He never complained or felt sorry for himself, no matter what. When asked he always said “it is what it is…. I feel great”, followed by his trademark “thumbs up”.
Michael’s final days were spent at Bethell Hospice where he received exemplary compassionate care. The staff and volunteers will never be forgotten for their kindness and support. They made a difficult journey a little bit more bearable.
Michael will always be remembered as a great gentleman. Will never be forgotten and will be loved forever by his wife Jane and by the people who knew him.
Dearest Michael
Thank you for giving me 50 fantastic years of being married to you. Our lives together were filled with joy and happiness and a million memories. You were always by my side through thick and thin as my husband, partner and best friend. I will love you forever until we meet again some sunny day.
Rest in peace my darling Michael.
“To everything there is a season, a time for every purpose under the heaven”.
A Celebration to Honour Michael will be held at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, donations to Bethell Hospice in Michael’s memory would be greatly appreciated.
