Obituary of Mary CHARRON
Maria "Mary" Charron
July 22, 1949 - February 4, 2024
Passed away at Trillium Hospital, Mississauga on February 4, 2024 at 74 years. Daughter of the late Julianna and Zoltan Rakos. Beloved wife of Richard. Dear mother of Michael (Lisa), Anne-Marie (Greg), and Suzette. Predeceased by daughter Elizabeth. Cherished grandmother of Trenton (Sara), Jacob, Tyler and Jonah. Mary loved being a grandmother and sparkled when talking of her grandchildren. Missed by her best friend, Sandra.
Mary was born in Budapest, Hungary. Her family’s journey to Canada was a courageous one fraught with many challenges. They fled the revolution and resided in a refugee camp before sailing to Canada. Mary did not speak much of the revolution as she focused on creating a better life for herself and her future children.
An avid reader, Mary made weekly trips to the library. She was a master cook and baker and often rescued the many disasters created by her children. She was patient as she taught her children around the kitchen. Mary was well-known for her Christmas baking which she delightfully shared with family and friends. She enjoyed baking strudel, shortbread and her much enjoyed traditional Hungarian desserts. She never disappointed.
Mary loved to knit. She often knitted slippers, mittens, hats and sweaters for her family. She took great pride and joy creating these items. She never shied away from a complicated pattern and made her own patterns as she saw fit. She loved watching Wheel of Fortune and Jeopardy – she was certain to never miss a night.
Mary loved flowers and gardening. Cherry tomatoes were one of her most abundant crops enjoyed by family, friends and neighbours.
