Lots of wonderful memories of having Mrs. Phillips for Grade 6. I remember our class trip was to the circus -- it's a brave teacher to takes an elementary school class to an evening performance of a circus in Toronto! We had wonderful time. I also remember spelling class well, as she was a strong believer in Morphographic Spelling, and that made for an interesting and different time. She always told us that we would never need another spelling class after we learned Morphographic Spelling. I don't know about that, but I did take a Linguistics course at university and aced the Morphology unit without even reading the chapter in the textbook -- because I had already learned it all in Grade 6!
Mrs. Phillips was very talented musically. She was a wonderful pianist, choir director, banjo teacher and general music teacher. She also had great skill in taking a tune and writing her own words to it -- often for a special occasion. Her song D-d-d-dufferin (to the tune of K-k-k-katy) was a big hit for the centennial! There were also multiple verses covering the history of the county to the tune of The Red River Valley.

Dear Marion, you were a favorite of Telecheck Dufferin and I, along with others, will miss your cheerful voice and wonderful "OkeyDokey" Goodbye. You had a very special life teaching in a country school house, raising your famiy on a farm, it was so special speaking with you, the old-fashioned teacher in you that I so well remember from my public school days, a teacher who brought out the best in her students and expected no less. To Kris, we will mis your mom and thank you for being responsive to our concerns for your mother's last days. Sandy Small Proudfoot, volunteer, Telecheck Dufferin
