Having a moment of nostalgia about my youth I decided to search out some of those notable personalities from my youth and came upon Alice's obituary.
Alice was always positive, and one of the most lively persons that I have ever encountered: even to this day.
She was always welcoming of us as high school students, and always had time to talk with us in her very busy kitchen.
Her advice on any number of problems we seemed to have was always positive and productive.
My condolences to her entire family.

Our deepest condolences to the Russell family.
She definitely was a one-of-a-kind. I would call her the energizer bunny. She always had a smile and made you feel so comfortable when it was time to see the dentist.
Big hugs to John and family
Sincerely
The Polischuk family

First of all I would like to offer my condolences to all of you.
Alice was truly one-of-a-kind. Such a beautiful witty lady with a great sense of humor which I found later in her life.
She always had a smile for me and was happy to see me although it was when she wasn't at her healthiest.
I wish the best for you girls and your families.

We have lost a very special person in our Alice. I first met her when we were both singing with the Just Friends. She was an inspiration to me and brought out the positve with everyone. I also knew her when she was in her pink smock at the hospital and I would go to the Tuck shop for a treat. We always had such good visits and she always reminded me to eat my carrot sticks. lol
Sending my deepest condolences to John and the entire Russell family.

We met Alice through cross-country skiing and tennis. In later years John would drop Alice off at Mono Nordic and wait patiently in the car while Alice skied. Alice’s enthusiasm for life was infectious. We could always count on seeing Alice volunteering at the Princess Margaret Christmas Sale and the Mono Nordic cross-country ski day for the students. Our condolences to their wonderful children and grandchildren whom we have also come to know through tennis and skiing.

I have many fond memories of meeting Mrs. Russell on her "nightly" walks around the neighborhood. She would stop for a quick chat and then be on her way. She always seemed so at peace and appreciative of everything and everyone around her.
My favourite memory was when her and Dr. Russell treated Laurie and I to an evening at the Drayton Theatre. Little did I know our treat extended to a car picnic after the performance. Mrs. Russell had thoughtfully prepared us a "mini buffet" of cheese and crackers, fruits and veggies and hot chocolate. We laughed, munched and chatted much longer than we should have. It was truly a grand night and a memory I revisit often.
We all have the power to touch people's lives. Alice Russell did it with grace. She had a way of making you feel special and like you were the only person in the room. I am truly blessed to have known and shared time with her.

Our parents, Muriel and Gord Woods were friends with Alice and John for over 65 years and even though my parents left Orangeville in 1965, their friendship endured. We have many wonderful memories of Alice but one jumps right out. Alice and our Mom loved chocolate and whenever Alice and John traveled to Toronto, Alice would get a box of chocolates. As soon as she arrived home a phone call would go out to Mom, "Muriel, you have to come over today , I got a box of "Laura's". It soon became a running joke with our parents.
Alice never changed, she was fun and her laugh was infectious. We look at her picture and she never aged, which was due to her zest for life. She touched everyone she met, she will be truly missed.
Our heartful condolences to John, Karen, Linda, Laurie and all your extended family.
Love,
Debby & Paul Racine

Mt heart breaks for all of you ! Mrs. Russell will always be held high in my heart and thoughts. I had the pleasure of doing piano duets with her daughter Karen, many many moons ago and Mrs. Russell, was the glue that kept us intact even then. I am truly sorry for this huge loss to all and regret that I will be away the celebration day but my heavy heart will be sharing with you !
What a huge loss, my Love, Sandra Ryan Manzer

Sending our deepest heart felt condolences to the entire Russell Family. We are sending strength and prayers your way and may you find great comfort in all the wonderful memories Alice has left behind. I too remember how the Russell Family included us in so many familial events such as weekly ski trips to tennis club//lessons in the summer and dinners/pool and so much laughter and good times in the family recreation room. I truly believe your belief in us shaped who we are today and can't thank you enough. I do recall these great moments spent with your family often and have been blessed to consider your mom and family to be a special influence in our lives. Your mom's vitality and kindness continues on through her beautiful family and all of the people whose lives she touched. Heaven just got that much brighter and may she shine down on you forever. Love from Helen, Kim & Mitch Danyluk

Sending our deepest condolences to the entire Russell Family. I don’t believe I ever saw Granny without a big smile on her face. Whether it was beautifully playing piano during those many years of Christmas Caroling at school or cross-country skiing, she shared her many gifts with those around her. Praying you find solace in this difficult time.

I first met Granny when I was in grade 4, her daughter Laurie was my teacher at the time. I struggled and was lost emotionally , Laurie and Granny turned my world around and welcomed me into their hearts. My fondest memory was a very special picnic in the Russell’s backyard, little did they know exactly what that day meant to me or how it turned things around for me. We did a pony craft and to this day I still have this! I moved away and when I returned many years later and I saw Laurie and then Granny it was like no time had ever passed and Granny remembered me. I’m so blessed that my 3 kids also had the pleasure of meeting Granny and her great big heart. Granny was such an inspiration to my family with her boundless energy and desire to ALWAYS help another. I’m so heartbroken for her family and all who had the absolute pleasure of meeting such a beautiful soul. Xo
