Obituary of Russ MACINTOSH

Please share a memory of Russ to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.

Russell (Russ, Rusty, Mackie) David Macintosh

April 4, 1962 – December 21, 2022

It is with great sadness and broken hearts we announce the passing of Russ on Wednesday, December 21st, at age 60, at Georgian Bay General Hospital, in Midland.

Russ will be deeply missed by his wife Patti of 36 years, daughter Sarah (John), son Matthew (Lindsay) and brother Andy (Kathie).  Russ was an uncle, great uncle and great great uncle to many loving nieces and nephews.  Predeceased by his father Bob (2006), mother Pat (2021) and nephew Jonathan (2003).

Russ was born at home in England.  When he was 4 years old, his family moved to Canada and eventually settled in Orangeville, Ontario.  Russ worked in the printing industry his whole life, with his final years at Sun Chemical in Brampton.

Russ spent many years playing sports, such as soccer, hockey, broomball and golf.  He had numerous friends and whether in a game or not, he was always the first to lend a hand (or a fist) to help them out.  Fittingly, his favorite hockey player was Dave “Tiger” Williams.

Russ was always the dad outside playing sports with all the kids in the neighbourhood.  Quite often, kids would knock on the door asking for Russ to come out and play.  He always signed up to help coach Sarah and Matt through their many sports and never missed a game.  He enjoyed the friendships made with the kids and their parents.  He was a very proud and supportive father.

Russ loved his family, his broomball buddies, childhood friends and work mates, who all held a very special place in his heart.  He had a quiet nature and a smile that could brighten any room.  He loved to joke around and could make everyone laugh with his one liners.

He loved working out in his home gym, sitting outside in the sun working on his tan and going for daily walks with his wife Patti.  He always had music playing, from morning to night.  One of his favourite things was sitting around a campfire with family and friends, with the music on, a drink in his hand and ranting about Trudeau.

Russ and Patti purchased a lot in La Fontaine a few years ago.  Their dream was to build a home and move once he retired, which they did earlier this year.  He was very proud of his “family” home that he and Patti built together.

His smile, love and superman strength will always be admired and never forgotten.

Russ’s family would like to thank RVH Cancer Centre (Dr. Kent Russell), Georgian Bay General Hospital (compassionate, loving staff), Orillia Soldiers Memorial Hospital (Dr. Tyler Gray)Bayshore Nursing (nurses Kristy & Nicole), Dr. David Stenning and family friend Dr. Jeff McKinnon, whose friendship and advice was immeasurable.  A very special heartfelt thank you to Tracy and Michael. To all who sent food, cards, messages, visits and phone calls, your love and support has been greatly appreciated and truly helped us through these devastating months.

We invite all family and friends to comfort each other through shared memories and Celebrate the Life of Russ on Friday, December 30th, from 1:00 pm – 3:00 pm at the Tony Rose Memorial Sports Centre - 6 Northmen Way, Orangeville, ON (Upper Level).  Words of remembrance will take place at 2:00 pm.

In lieu of flowers, we request donations be made to Georgian Bay General Hospital and RVH Cancer Centre.
