Obituary of Patricia Joan COPELAND

Patricia Joan Copeland (nee Francis) died on December 13th, 2021 in Bradford, Ontario. She was predeceased by her beloved husband and soul-mate of 51 years Murray Copeland. Patricia and Murray were friends from an early age having grown up three doors apart on the same street and attended the same school in East Kildonan, Manitoba. She is survived by her children Thomas (Sonya), Karen (Ross), Mark (Heather) and grandchildren Kyle, Loren, Brian, Andrew and Amanda. Pat was born on the 9th of August 1935 and grew up in Winnipeg, Manitoba. After training and working as a teacher in Winnipeg, she married Murray and started a life of adventure as Murray's career with the Canadian Armed Forces led to postings in Zweibrucken Germany, where Tom and Karen were born, at Royal Roads Military College on Vancouver Island, in Chatham New Brunswick, where Mark was born, a temporary posting in Tyndall Air Force Base Florida (which Tom, Karen and Mark remember as one long glorious beach outing), in Lahr Germany, and in North Bay Ontario. Pat and Murray settled in North Bay in 1977 and established a rich community life there. Pat decided to re-enter the work force after Tom, Karen and Mark all left for university and after taking a re-entry course at Nipissing College, she was asked to become the instructor. Pat and Murray's first European posting ignited their lifelong travel passion - they took advantage of their military postings to explore Canada and Europe, and were able to expand their destinations and lengths of trips even further after retirement. Pat had a passion for cooking and baking - her repertoire was continually influenced by their travels.
