James (Jim) Morenz East
January 4, 1942 – December 2, 2021
James (Jim) Morenz East passed peacefully surrounded with love by his family at his side at Chapman House - Residential Hospice of Grey-Bruce on Thursday, December 2, 2021 at the age of 79. Jim is survived by his beloved wife of 55 years. Betty Anne (nee Eyre). Loving father of daughter Tara (Todd) Tilson of Owen Sound, daughter Dana (Jamie) Armstrong of Orangeville and son Jeremy (Jill Elena Coles) East of Waterdown. Proud Papa of Keegan, Scotland, Trenten, Taylor and Dorian. Beloved son of Verna Freiderika East (deceased) of Mitchell. Sadly he never knew his dad Clarence Percy East, as he was killed at Dieppe in 1942 during the war. Loving son-in-law of Stan and Muriel Eyre (deceased) of Norval. Also survived by two brother-in-laws, Murray (Liz) Eyre and Tom (Terri) Eyre, and sister-in-law Pam (brother-in-law Bruce deceased) Eyre, and several nieces and nephews. Special heartfelt appreciation to Chapman House for their dedication to patient care.
Jim loved and played baseball and hockey in his youth. He put his heart and soul into building the family cottage and other buildings at Williams Lake in Chatsworth and took great pride in what he accomplished. He and Betty Anne decided they wanted to live there permanently when they retired which meant expansion to the cottage over the years. They enjoyed snowmobiling at the cottage with friends most winter weekends, and boating in summer, where their children along with friends enjoyed waterskiing and other water sports.
Over the years, Jim had 2 knee replacements, developed Parkinson's Disease, had a shoulder replacement and other health issues arose. In August 2021, he fell and broke his hip which was the beginning of the decline in his health. His first and second hip surgeries were not successful and he was waiting for a third surgery to be booked in London. During his 4 months stay in hospital, he developed more health issues which led to his passing on December 2nd.
Respecting his wishes, cremation has already taken place. A Celebration of Life will be planned in the future.
In lieu of flowers and if you wish, memorial donations to Chapman House – Residential Hospice of Grey Bruce, 1725 10th St E, Owen Sound, ON. N4K 0G5, Telephone 519-370-7239, would be appreciated in memory of Jim.
