Obituary of Gerald Albert Hartley MONTGOMERY

Montgomery, Gerald Albert Hartley, 74 years old, passed away on May 7, 2021 in Calgary Alberta. Gerald resided in Kentucky for many years and moved to Calgary, Alberta in 2018 to be with his forever love, Joan. Gerald started his career working for Canadian Tire for 15 years and transitioned into a successful businessman owning his own auto care business. Gerald was born in Grand Valley, Ontario on December 3, 1946 to Albert and Irene Montgomery (nee Dickson). Gerald was predeceased by his parents and siblings Bill and Bonnie. Married to Wenda Montgomery 1972 - 1974, married to Marcia Vonderschmidt for 38 years until her passing in 2016. Survived and missed so much by his partner, Joan Murphy of Calgary, and her 3 children, Ben and partner Charlene, Cory, Christine, and 3 grandchildren. Survived by his daughter Sarah Short-McDougall and grandchildren, Emily and Wyatt. Also survived by nieces and nephews, Erin, Jeff, Shelly, Tara Jane, Shawna, Andrew, Nicolas, Jacob, Julie, 10 great nieces and nephews and 2 great-great nieces and 1 great-great nephew. Gerald had a wonderful sense of humour and a passion for food, travel, animals and the odd shot of bourbon. He enjoyed people, everywhere he went he would talk to people and ask questions and engage them in conversation. He was very inquisitive and interested in learning what he didn’t know. He was a thinker. He is sadly missed. A celebration will take place in Grand Valley on August 21, 2021, at 1:00 pm. There will be a graveside service at the Union Cemetery in Grandy Valley followed by refreshments and social time at In Memoriam Funeral Services Inc.
