I'm thinking of my mom. And missing her so much. She has touched so many lives as did my dad. I often wonder what difference it would have made if circumstances were different but that's moot now. I just miss you Mom and I miss dad and pray that you are together in spirit and looking down on us 3 children you've both raise so wonderfully. I hope to continue on with your grace and kindness you've always shown to others especially those in need. Love you Mom

My beloved Nan. You deserve to be remembered for the light you were in all of our lives. When I think of you, I think of the sound of your laughter after hearing a good joke. I think of the admirable concentration you had when watching an episode of the Wheel of Fortune. I think of how proud of your teaching career you were, and how you still corrected my grammar at 90 years old. I think of the endless pies and salads you made for our family dinners. I think of your love of family, and how your eyes would light up after hearing a new story or seeing a new picture of your grandchildren and great-grandchildren. When I close my eyes, I see your beautiful smile. I picture myself as a child, walking with you to the hen house to collect eggs. I hear you saying "oh for land's sake!". We will always be thinking of you Nan. See you again soon.

Hi Mom, missing you so much. Here's our words we remember you as. On May 25th 2021, our mother, Flora Jane Smith (Nayler) in her 92nd year, passed away peacefully in her sleep at the family farm, Smithaven. She joins her loving husband Dawson and sister Margaret to watch over her son Bill (Laurie) and daughters Flora Marie and Bonnie, and her grandchildren Jessica (Jared) Samantha, Victoria, Dawson (Sarah), and Leanna Jane, and her sister Patricia. She was also fortunate to know her great grandchildren Maddy, Grayson and Benjamin.
Mom met the love of her life, Dad, while completing her Bachelors of Arts in Quebec. She spent her working years as a teacher of all levels, while always being ready to help with farm chores. From raising three children to raising just about every livestock animal you can think imaginable. From teaching her students to ensuring her children and the animals were taken care of, it seem like she never stopped. Even in retirement, she never quite knew how to sit still and always had a project or two on the go.
We were blessed to have so many memories with both our parents on the farm. From her oldest grandchildren learning to ski under their grandfather's watchful eye to being able to watch her youngest grandchild Leanna Jane and her first great grandchild Maddy learned on the same hills. In the summers, Flora Jane ran the roads with grandchildren Jessica and Victoria and baked up a storm, much to our father's benefit who taste tested it all. From collecting eggs to learning a healthy respect for a cow's space, Mom taught us all a love for animals we’ll always cherish. She loved puttering in the garden, and having talks with her ‘ladies’ - the egg laying hens. Mom tended to her gardens just as devotedly as she raised her children and loved her grandchildren and great grandchildren. Flora Jane spent her recent years enjoying the scenery of Smithaven, playing endless games of crazy 8's with her daughter Bonnie and long-time farm friends (most of which she won), mastering the game of Scrabble with daughter Flora Marie, and enjoying many conversations with her son Bill, as well as watching her grandchildren and great grandchildren grow. While she will be greatly missed, she stays with us through her delicious recipes, heart-warming laughs, and the years of shared wisdom and memories that were made. We love you mom.
