Obituary of Guy Rowen MARLATT
September 8, 1927 - May 19, 2021
Guy Rowen Marlatt, age 93 of Caledon, Ontario. We are saddened to announce the passing of our much loved husband of Jean, father of John (Jane), pre-deceased by Michael (Cynthia), Dave (Carol), Dana (Lauren), Dianne (Bruce), Tim (Anna) and Celina. Grandfather to Sarah, Jeni, Corey, Jay, Lindsay, Phil, Tara, Nick, Amanda, Danny, Ian, Bobbi Jo, Debbi, Aidan, and Mackenzie. A great Grandfather to 17 wonderful great-grandkids, and beloved uncle to many nieces and nephews and their children. He was recently tickled to become a great-great grandfather with the birth of beautiful Ryann in Hawaii.
Guy was born in Ebenezer, just outside of Norwich Ontario, in 1927 to Harold and Martha Marlatt, one of four brothers (Keith, Owen, Guy and Neil). Following in his mother’s footsteps, he took his first teaching job in August 1946. He would go on to teach for almost 40 years for various boards and schools across Ontario, gaining recognition for his outstanding contributions to science teaching and especially founding the Peel Science Fair though networking with fellow science teachers and partnering with his fellow Rotarians of the Rotary Club of Clarkson (now West Mississauga).
Guy was also a long-time member of the Orangeville Rotary Club and a past president of the Caledon Optimist Club. He and Jean love their retirement property in Caledon, where he raised and raced Standardbred horses for many years after teaching. In his young 80s Guy joined the Headwaters Carvers Club to pursue bark carving, wood carving and burning, producing many keepsakes for his family.
The family would like to thank the Headwaters healthcare teams for all their help and outstanding support keeping Guy safe and comfortable during his last few days. Please know that we appreciate all that you have done for Guy, the family and the community.
Guy will be missed by all and we hope to have the opportunity to see everyone soon. Due to Covid restrictions we will have a memorial, when family and friends can gather, once restrictions have lifted and it is safe. Internment will be at Bookton Cemetery in Norfolk County, date to be determined.
In lieu of flowers please donate to the Bird Studies Canada, Toronto Conservation Authority or Our Forest.
