Obituary of Albert BUISMAN

1932 - 2020 Albert Buisman was born on June 7, 1932 in the town of Bedum, Groningen, the Netherlands. He was the oldest of six children. In 1945 when Albert was 12, and just before the end of the second world war, he moved with his family to the city of Dokkum in Friesland where he finished his schooling. After high school he started working in the family Pharmacy business with his dad, often making deliveries to many neighbouring communities. He met his wife, Florence, in Dokkum and they married in 1953. Shortly thereafter, they emigrated to Canada to start a new life together. They started in Bowmanville, Ontario, and soon after moved to Streetsville, Ontario where Albert got a job at a factory at a company called P. Graham Bell. This is where Albert and Florence started their family of five children. Albert continued to work at P. Graham Bell for many years, working himself from the shipping warehouse to a sales position in the office, and eventually the General Manager. He loved this company, and loved his work. The company provided Albert with the opportunity to travel many places around North America, Europe and Asia. This is where his love of travel began. In 1962, just after the birth of their fifth child they realized their small home in Streetsville was no longer large enough for the family. At this time they bought a small parcel of land off of a farmer in Brampton on the corner of Steeles Avenue and McLaughlin Road, when it was still all just farmland. This is where they started to build their new house. They moved into the house just before the Christmas of 1964, and lived there until 2003. Albert was very active in his church, the Cadetting Ministry for boys and especially the Christian school where he was the treasurer of the John Knox Christian School for over 35 years. After he retired he enjoyed travelling, organizing European bus trips, and working in the Brampton Bibles for Missions Thrift Store. Throughout this time of working and volunteering, Albert always put his family first. He worked hard providing for the family, but always ensuring there was time for family vacations, sports events (mostly hockey), leisure time and playing games with his children. He made it a priority to attend as many special events of his children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren. He loved and honoured family time. His grandchildren relate fond memories of their time with their Opa at Little Europe Resort near Bracebridge, where Albert and Florence would spend their summer vacations. This is where many of the grandchildren learned to water ski and to fish with their Opa. In recent years, Albert had been coping with a number of health issues including several different cancers. He was a fighter however. We often joked about Albert having nine lives. His love for his wife Florence, his children, 15 grandchildren, and now 12 great grandchildren gave him the energy and momentum to fight whatever was being thrown at him. In this 89th year however, the fight became too much. Albert passed away peacefully in his apartment in Holland Christian Homes, surrounded by Florence and his children. He was a man who loved his Lord and demonstrated a life of servanthood and leadership. He will be greatly missed by Florence and his family, but also by so many more from his extended family, church family and friends who knew and loved him. Due to Covid restrictions, a small private funeral service will be held for Albert. Florence appreciate so much the love, support, and prayers shown to her by so many during this time. Florence and the family would like to thank so many who have been a support to Albert during his illness and would also like to give a special thanks to Albert’s family physician Dr. K. Hoornweg, his Palliative Nursing Coordinator, Amanda, and his many Care partners. During this time he also received incredible loving medical care from his daughter Joanna, and his two daughter in-laws, Joyce and Johanna who supported him with 24 hour palliative care.
