Obituary of Margaret Alma CODY
October 19, 1932 – August 18, 2020
It is with heavy hearts we announce the death of Margaret Cody at the age of 87 years. Margaret passed away peacefully at home surrounded by family.
Loving wife to Keith of 30 years and proud and loving mother to William Corbeil (Shirley), Bernadette Verhiel (Jeff), Catherine Cody (Gary), Neil Cody (Margaret), Chris Cody (Christina), Drew Cody (Myrna) and Peter Cody. Loving and proud Grandmother to Wyatt Corbeil, Winston Corbeil, Christopher Cody, Matthew Davis, Patrick Dedauw, Ryan Cody, Carolyn Cody, Nolan Cody and Robin Cody. Great Grandmother to Charlie Cody and Thomas Cody. Sister to Frederick Crowe (Christine), Gladys Mowforth and Barbra Lopes (Mel) She is predeceased by her brothers Edward Crowe and Norman Crowe.
Margaret loved to learn and although she was only allowed schooling to grade 9 before being sent to work full time to help support her family, Margaret got her college certificate in Library Science and graduated from McMaster University at the age of 58 with a Bachelor of Arts Degree. Margaret was a talented poet and self-taught cake decorator having made hundreds of cakes for special occasions and weddings as a professional. She designed her own cake decorating course and taught, starting at the local high school and went on to teach the course at several colleges in Ontario. Margaret had a successful career as a Librarian having retired from Mills Library at McMaster University in 1997.
In retirement Margaret loved to read, play games, enjoyed the company of family and friends and travel. She was very active in the United Church Women’s group for many years and was always generous with her talent and kindness.
The family would like to thank the Westminster United Church family for their support and friendship embracing Margaret when she relocated to Orangeville and to the Bayshore Palliative care nurses and all the wonderful Personal Support Workers that cared for her in the last few months of her life.
In lieu of flowers donations to the Scott Mission in her memory would be greatly appreciated.
In Memoriam Funeral Services Inc. has been given the honour to serve the Cody Family.
