Obituary of Robert Sorensen

ROBERT ORLOFF SORENSEN March 29, 1934 - March 13, 2017 With family by his side, Bob passed away on Monday, March 13, 2017 in his 82nd year. Bob will be lovingly remembered and cherished by his wife Elaine of 60 years. He will be greatly missed by his four children Janice (Bob), Greg (Gayle), Linda (Wayne) and Dan (Tracey). Adored Grandpa of Alysia (Mike), Brittney (Matt), Adam (Olenka), Christine, Kaila (Phil) and Cameron as well as his three great grandchildren, Alanna, Nathan and Connor. Also remembered by brothers Richard and John and sisters Catherine, Johanna and Karen. Predeceased by his parents Helga and Sigfred “Jack” Sorensen, brother Edward and nephews Andrew and Mark. Throughout his long and accomplished career at Chrysler Canada, Bob also loved baseball and cottaging. In baseball, he started out as a catcher and switched to pitching, quickly becoming one of the best. Master of multiple pitches, he became known as the “Ace Hurler”. The highlight of his baseball coaching career was at the World Championships with the girls National Softball team. Bob also enjoyed family time at his cottage, both on Moot Lake and Lake Manitouwabing. Being an avid fisherman & windsurfer, he spent countless hours teaching his kids & grandkids. He was also a member of the Masters Windsurfing Club. Our family would like to thank the staff at the Avalon Retirement Lodge as well as at Headwaters Health Care Centre specifically ICU staffers, Kate, Claudia and Josie. Cremation has taken place. A Celebration of Life will be held for family at a later date. Expressions of sympathy can be made in memory of Bob to the Alzheimer Society or the Heart and Stroke Foundation.
